  • Ford Key ( 3 button original )

Hi all, My Ford Key does not work, ie lock-unlock- open boot. does this just mean i need a new internal circuit board? and does this have to be from Ford? also how does this reprogramme ( with Ford? ) My key obviously reads within the ignition else ide thought my car would not start ( Immobiliser ) Key battery has been changed.

Not 100% sure about the RS. Can't see why it would be different from normal Mk1 Focus

      Have you changed the battery?
The PATS immobiliser is coded separately from the remote operation so if the battery goes it will still start the car, it works via a transponder.

Try changing the battery, if that doesn't work you may need to recode the remote with the new battery, you do this by inserting the key into the ignition, turning to and from position 2/3 multiple times until a bong is heard, then press a button on the remote to complete, it should confirm with another bong. The remote operation should then work.

Let me know how you get on.

Apologies if repeating what that youtube video is, I can't view it on this device.

      Regards,
      Nick

Yeh Nick, the YouTube video only realy gives info on the last part of what you said.
So the part about the battery etc is worth giving a go if the programing doesn't work I reckon.

With my old 1.8 focus I had a problem like this in the winter where the buttons wouldn't work and I found out it was a central locking motor that was sticking. It was fine in the warmer months and it wouldn't stick but come winter it would stick and the buttons wouldn't work. It may be worth checking.

The fob can be completely broken as the PATS receiver is separate, so it will always start the car. :)
