Booked an MOT last week as it expired 4th August. It was meant to be this morning but ended up cancelling it yesterday afternoon after realising the car wasn't going to be going anywhere - at least not without the risk of breaking down knowing my luck.
Going to spend the weekend having a better look & maybe try and get it running again next week, but at the moment it looks like it's not going to run happily for any significant length of time. Going to check the plugs / leads / coil as a first point of call, as i'd been meaning to look at those after the intermittent running issue i had just before it got stored last year, and go from there - but knowing my luck it won't be those.
To add to the list it seems there's also evidence of a small amount of oil passing the turbo seals too. Technically the turbo's only done a couple of k miles but i don't think sitting for 9 odd years will have done the seals / lubrication any good. I also have a feeling the actuator is sticking too. Ugh. Mind you i'd been looking at sacking off the 28 anyway, so i guess this means i can now actively start looking at all the various turbo builders out there and go about speccing a decent 25 hybrid now.
Bloody Covid - having spent all the time getting it back on the road last year i'm back in the same position as i was before with it stuck in the garage
Oh well, if it is buggered, at least i've only wasted 1 month of tax and get the other 5 refunded - one small positive i guess

Still no closer to sorting the MOT. Although hopefully getting somewhere. So far yesterday & today i've also found (in addition to the last post & which were all likely combining to cause issues):
- hairline crack through the coil pack plastic - could be age / heat related from the engine i guess - so need to sort a new one of those.
- two of the plug leads seem to have loose connections - one onto the coil and another onto the plugs - probably age more than anything as they were one of the first mods fitted in '06.
- best of all though - one of the new spark plugs that was fitted last year dropped the tip off. Thought it looked a little wonky when i pulled the plug, tapped it gently and off it came. Thankfully it dropped off after i'd extracted it and it didn't come off whilst inside the engine. The other 3 plugs seem fine but i'm tempted to bung the previous plugs i had back in as they still look fine (even though they sat in the car for 9 years).
This car is really turning into a love / hate relationship now.

Given up trying to get it running / MOT'd. Clearly something not right somewhere & knowing my luck i'll end up doing more damage & cost myself more money in the long run, so whacked it back on SORN this afternoon. Hopefully, if some form of normality returns next year, i can get it recovered to SCC or MAD and get it looked at properly.
Just need to hope that the DVLA still process the 4 months refund correctly - lots of posts online suggesting they're using CV as a convenient excuse to avoid / delay certain paperwork, refunds, etc.

Got them from Germany switchable LHD to RHD also need to change the pins round on the connector as there supposed to be pre-facelift but have the correct connector for the later headlights.Last edited by Marathonman72; 04-10-2020, 06:36 AM.
