  • My latest project GARAGE BUILD

I know you all like build threads with loads of pics so here's my latest project, if unapropriate here mods please move to other section of forum
As some of you may know we've moved house last year, but there was no garage/workspace for me so a new one had to be built
After a long search I found a contractor that looked and sounded decent and made me a good price, cheapest and dearest offer were abou 1-5
so most expensive was 5 x the price of cheapest
Now I didn't opt for the cheapest but went for someone that looked trustworthy to me and didn't want any money before he even delivered anything,
We already had made a concrete foundation late last year with a couple of friends, 30cm thick concrete slab with two 10mm nets in it, to be sure to have a good base
First delivery of some materials on aug 1st

After a days work of my crew

    This was on aug 5

    start of week two

Wednesday of week two the concrete elements for the right hand side (roof) and leftside 1st floor were put up

After which they left it to do another job that week so I had some time myself to put up a steel structure in the middle because I want an electric hoist inside to get some heavy stuff as engines and gearboxes to the 1st floor which is intended as storage
The steel beams you see on next pictures were put in by me

So week 3 started with heavy machinery on the drive to poor some concrete on top of the slabs

After all that they continued laying bricks until this morning when they turned up to finish it to what it is now and clean the place up a bit

This is how it is standing now

Now I know you'll think the front wall looks sh!t but tha's because they asked me to put the roof on first so they can afterwards take care the brickwork will align with the roof to its best potential, and when they come back to do so they will also fill all seams between the bricks as should (dunno the correct term for that job in English)
All in all I must say that my gut feeling about this contractor was 100% correct, was a small company, father and son with one student helping, so boss was always on site working and everything was discussable, asked many questions, as although I am a trained technician I'm not into buildingsand not a question or a wish was too much, very happy with how all has gone, which isn't always obvious nowadays with contractors
Also not fussy about money, obviously I already payed most of it as they already provided most of it, but still something left to pay once finished, a man of his word, he was correct in everything we agreed on so me very happy
Just ordered some wood to make the roof structure, that will arrive late this week
      Bit of explanation
The right hand side of the building is 13m long, 3m wide and 3m high, this is meant to store three cars
the left side of the buildings is meant to be my workshop, first 6m, 6.5m wide are open until the roof to put my 2post lift in, the rear part has a 1st floor to store some heavy parts such as engines and gearboxes, under that 1st floor will be my work bench, press, tool cabinets etc
      total of 90 square metres
Will keep you lot updated if interested

Is the front elevation not begging for a window for natural light and a huge Ford sign?

I have a huge ford sign but don't want signs outside, wife wouldn't want that either
As for natural light, the roof will have light panels in and the garage door will be opening straight up to not interfere with car lift, so if door's open the window would be blocked anyway
Signs i have are still in my old garage : large ford and smaller escort dealer signs

I know it ain't a small garage to put a car in, but apart from my day job i'm partly self employed doing mechanical repairs on cars so this earns me some too
And everyone knows that the correct tools/workspace is half a job
Off course when you have a hobby with RS cars as i have a space like this always comes in handy

I'm turning greener (with envy) every time I look at the pictures! Fantastic build and you're very lucky too.

Sorry for that mate, never meant to make anybody jealous, it's hard work to pay for this all too
And yes i know i'm a lucky man, got a good wife, two fabulous kids, we'r all in good health and we live in a nice house in a good neighbourhood, but as said we need to work for it, never inherited, or stole anything😳
                          Thanks for nice comments
