  • Update to re-commissioning of 2549

Hi all - finally a post without a question.

My car has been laid up for 4 -5 years. Stuck a battery on it and new batteries in the key and alarm remote, quick look at the timing belt and turned the key ....... nothing - wouldn't start. I tried several times checked the remote and so on - then realised there is a start button. DOH !

Flicked the button trying to just prime the oil pump - and it fired !! Sweet as a nut on idle. Re-set radio code and a few bits and pieces woke up, checked all the lights, the alarm function, fitted new tailgate struts now tailgate button works. In fact I think everything works, except the charge cooler pump.

    Some progress !!

    Good news 👍

CC pump isn't a big deal to replace, or just put new brushes in. Link on how to : Chargecooler pump brushes replacement

This is a well known issue on our cars and for that I would suggest you to get a Scangauge or something like it to monitor temperatures, as driving it hard without a working CC system might cause serious engine troubles.

Hardest part when changing the pump is getting the system bled of air. I usually fill it up through the top hose on the righthand hand top corner of the CC box until the cooling fluid comes out of the CC box.
It’s a fairly easy diy job.

As per cambelt and water pump, does the car have any history? Specifically on cambelt? If not I would not risk an engine worth 1000’s for a cambelt costing probably a little over 100 if you can do it yourself? I did a how to here : Timing belt

Waterpump can easily be done separately from cambelt, so if that is still good you can leave it as is. New water pumps are getting harder to find nowadays I guess as they’re RS specific. Although these are easily refurbed for a good price at SP waterpumps (had mine done there and well happy, just as loads of other people here)

Cheers. All sound advice i will be following ! I've got building work going on at home, so just doing bits and pieces at the moment, really just checking it over, ahead of doing the things you recommend. Agree on the cambelt for sure. Thanks for the advice on the CC pump and the links. 👍
