  • Rust transfer

Hi guys, i wondered how likely rust at the bottom of a front wing was to have also resulted in rust in the shell where it is fastened at the sill front, any feel for what it's usual to find there ? Limited to wing or always in the shell too, or a bit varied. I should say that the car is in secure storage atm so not easy for me to get a look. Cheers

The issue at the bottom of the wing is generally caused by the sound deadening that gets wet and then continues to remain damp for a very long time. Slowly rotting it out. Most of the time this just affects the wing but in theory it could cause issues at the sill itself also.

Hi all, the thing is that the design of many cars and especially our Focuses is that the front fender cover does not protect the body from dirt, sand, earth and other contaminants. It's not about the seal getting wet, although it's not about that either. But the most important thing is that if you take off the front wheel cover and remove this seal - you will see a lot of dirt in the place where the fender is attached to the body and the most important thing is that between the lower horizontal part of the front fender and the body itself there is a space of 5 mm or less, which is clogged with dust and sand. I reckon 99% of all owners have never looked in there, so far so good. I strongly recommend to all who love cars to remove the underfender and clean this place from dirt by any means. make sure that you have no rust, and if there is, then remove the lower fender mount and bend it a little to clean everything from corrosion and cover the body with special means. Once a year, I would check this place by removing the underfender to make sure everything is in order.
Here is for example my case, which I discovered after buying the car. Alas, the previous owners did not realise that it is necessary to look after the bodywork and this led to such dire consequences. Now I have to look for the lower part of the wing and replace the lower section.

And my pictures at the link show what happens when owners don't pay attention to these spots on cars. Dust and dirt accumulated there gets wet and it is very difficult to dry it - practically the dirt is in a wet state, constantly provoking corrosion.
