What battery is best for our cars that will still fit with the standard battery box

The standard battery size is 390AMP / 43AH.


The largest Ford battery recommended to fit in the battery tray is the 500AMP / 52AH. Not sure on how this compares with the size / dimensions of the Bosch S5 as mrsimmers has recommended?

Fitting any bigger Ford battery (Diesel) can chaff on the bottom intercooler pipe.

Hmm, they do a Bosch S3 065 which is 470 amp and 53ah but it's the same size as the Bosch S5 075 but has 600amp and 61ah so would I be better getting the Bosch S3 then ?

I fitted a Bosch S5 075 battery to the RS last weekend. It's fits fine but I have an air to air cooler so the battery just sits in original position

Yep the S5 fits perfect and so does the battery cover.

If it were me I would (and I did!) buy a STANDARD ... Ford calcium battery, 390A/43Ah.. If you haggle you can usually get a decent percentage off them as well

That's the one i bought nearly 2 years ago, and still going strong.

I do disconnect the battery when storing the RS over wintertime.

I fitted a bosh s5 on mine battery lasts alot longer before going flat. And seam alot more happy starting up
