  • Thermostat Housing

Hi, new member here, first post so be gentle.

I understand that the thermostat housing is a weak part of these cars. So my question is which is the preferred recommended part for me to buy and from whom?

    Advice is appreciated.

Hi mate. The billet alloy ones are top, but top money too.

There are alternatives, try the search function as this has been done before.
In the US you can find cast alloy replacements fairly easy (ebay). Also, early silvertop zetecs had alloy ones (very rare) later silvertop ones had a plastic thermostat housing which is loads better than the blacktop ones. Used to be sold by Carparts Express.

Please also note that it might be good practice to change the reservoir cap as it has a pressure relief valve in. If that fails overtime the next weak link in your cooling system might break ie thermostat housing, or if uprated too much such as alloy that won’t break a headgasket 😳 so for the sake of a couple £ I always change the reservoir cap when working on cooling circuit.

I've just gone through the very same experience. I'd suggest the DPC billet ones as most others also suggest They a few £'s, but worth the investment. Give Pete or Ant a call at DPC, or look out for another group buy. Maybe also have a chat with Clayton.

Bespoke Engineering also make them. Poynter87 runs one on his car and has good things to say about it.

Can look at running another DPC Billet Thermostat Housing group buy if there is enough interest?

I have one from bespoke engineering as Dan has mentioned and I can't fault it since it's been on the car so I would recommend one. I also had a billet one from DPC before and again it was a very good part and the only reason I changed to the bespoke engineering one was because the owner of bespoke asked me to test his out otherwise I would have kept the dpc one. The dpc one looks more like the standard housing whereas the bespoke engineering one is made from three pieces. If you have a look at the thread for my car you will see pictures of both housings.

I met somebody at the 20th day that had one of these fitted, he said that the old plastic front had to be used on it but you can also get them in black I think?
It is metal but unless you are going to add say a temp switch you'll have to plug it, but would be better than any plastic version I'd have thought and half the price of a billet one?
