  • ST oil pressure gauge on RS

    Good morning everyone,

Would there be one person among all of you who would have adapted the temperature and oil pressure meters of the Focus St in our RS?

I came across a ST Mk1 this weekend and I discovered a lot of things, I'm curious to see if it's already done.

    Thank you in advance.

    Sportingly.

I'm pretty sure it's been tried by a small number of people and the general opinion was that it's not possible due to ECU interfacing problems. Have read multiple times that the ST170 gauges are not accurate also.

All right, thank you very much for returning to my questions.

I've been looking into this too as would like temp and oil pressure gauge. From what I've read the easiest and best option is the scangauge 2, which is what i think i will be going with.

I'm pretty sure our cars don't read oil pressure or oil temp so you can't select the settings on the scanguage for them.

        Thanks Rutts,
I thought scangauge would read oil temps and pressure but looks like it doesn't.
Might have to have a re-think.
        Cheers

Scangauge is 100% worth fitting in my opinion anyway if you dont have one already.
What gauges do you run currently?

Currently don't have any additional gauges, used to have an ST170 that's why I thought the oil gauges would fit, but i think i will go with a scangauge as they look well worth fitting.
Out of interest has anyone managed to monitor oil temp and pressure, do we even need to monitor them?

If I recall my research correctly, the gauge pod from the ST is driven by the gauge cluster - I spent some time with a multimeter, an arduino and some power trying to make the gauges respond in a predictable way - I couldn't. I dare say a lot of reverse engineering would be necessary to make something that makes the ST gauges plug into our cars.

That said, you would need to add oil pressure and oil temp sensors too - I don't think we have those as standard.

It's not the end of the world to add those, but you then need to go a little custom with your gauges, which is something I'm half in the middle of myself, leaning towards using a Raspberry Pi and some analogue-digital signal converters.

Always good to monitor your oil but depends what you're using the car for really as to whether its strictly necessary. There are quite a few track lads running various gauges which is obviously fine in a track car. I personally didnt want to run lots of them for aesthetics so i have a scangauge in the coin tray by the clocks and i monitor boost+afr in a single gauge on the A pillar.

As said I believe its almost impossible to get gauge to work as it uses a output from the st170 ecu and is diffrent to the rs, the scangauge is very useful but also can't display oil temp or pressure, I have fitted a stack oil pressure and temp gauge in mine, I also have stack boost and afr gauge to keep any eye on things.

Scan gauge is very useful as you can use it as a fault reader and clear codes with it. You're better off fitting a aftermarket oil temperature/pressure, fit a sandwich plate on oil filter housing and earth them from sensors to gauge. I ran wires through grommet on passenger side bulkhead. I use stack oil temperature/pressure gauges which are expensive but very accurate and reliable.

                      Hello, new to RS ownership.
Through some reading, I found that via hidden menu we can get Engine temp and Coolant temp readings.
Does anyone knows where these sensors take the reading and what range of Eng temp/Coolant temp we should observe?

These are just values the ECU reads, you can use a scangauge to display almost any value the ECU can show via the OBD port which is why its so useful to have the coolant temp showing on these cars.
Im not sure what sensor and where the "engine temp" exactly is (cant say i've come across this function on the rs) but the coolant temp is measured via a sensor in the head. This is the value that you see owners usually choosing to display on the scangauge. A normal temp is usually around 95-105°c dependant on driving and the cooling fan should operate at 112°c on a standard car.

Hi, I too would love to add the ST170 gauges to the standard RS, I don't understand why the factory dropped such important gauges. Taking out the temp gauge and putting in boost pressure doesn't really make sense to me. Both are important. Especially with a hint of rally history, where there are always a lot of sensors in the interior of a race car.
