  • Might have to sell the RS

This last few months have been quite a nightmare for me. In November I've had to have emergency surgery due to 9mm kidney stone. This still hasn't been resolved and have to go for further surgery tomorrow.

Due to this I struggle to drive the RS. The rigidity of the car and the seat cause me to feel quite a lot of discomfort, feeling every bump on the road.

So looks like im destined to needing a modern more comfortable car.

Hope you feel better soon, and your surgery tommorrow will get you back to good health and that you can keep hold of your car!

      Thank you Marathonman.

I'm 41, ex army was fit as a fiddle and the last year hasn't been a good one.

I'm hoping that this surgery will resolve everything. Been told ill be off work again another month with recovery. Hasnt helped that I also caught covid in January to compound it all.

I had all intentions of stripping back the car as much as it could, clean it up over the warmer months and titrivate it. I think my days laying under cars in all weathers could be over. Lol

See what the next month brings.

Sorry to hear you have been unwell Barry and it sounds like the last few months have been rough hopefully the next round of surgery works and the discomfort of driving the RS goes so you can get back to enjoying it but your health is the most important thing so if it comes to it then the best option is to unfortunately sell it.

        Thanks Richard.

Driving the RS in this state of discomfort is no fun. I keep taking the Mrs Evoque and she complains, typical women. Im sure she will be happy if I have to get rid of the motorbike though. Ha ha.

Sounds like you have the cars I would have on the drive if the Mrs had her way as she wants an Evoque and she has mentioned in the past about getting rid of the RS until I told what I would buy to replace it and she soon saw sense and told me to keep the RS.

If your in pain driving the RS then I can imagine it's no fun which takes away a lot of what I like about the RS which is the raw driving experience.

Well my Mrs had a BMW 123d M sport convertible remapped to 250bhp which she loved. I bought her the evoque(3 door version with big wing back seats and remapped to 240nhp) and she loves it. She needed a car to use to get to work down a country lane of else she would have kept the BM, even having had it 6 years.

I got the RS after selling my Golf R, having had my first FRS in 2007 -2009.

Well at the moment we share the mk3 focus which has got every toy we could ever want in a car probably too many plus it has the 180 bhp engine the same as the fiesta st so goes alright. I had mk1 Fiat Punto GT before the rs which I got in 2011 so quite a jump from the 1.4 turbo punto. The Mrs has always wanted an Evoque but without selling the rs and going down to one car it's not something we could afford unfortunately.

          That would be a shame.
Sorry to hear of your bad luck, fingers crossed you can get sorted and potentially keep it.
Sounds like you've had a few nice cars as well

That's not good, hopefully the surgery tomorrow will get your health back !

Personally I wouldn't sell the RS, just yet. Wait a bit to see how things go.

            Fingers crossed tomorrow

              Thanks Bart.

If I can keep it i will. I dont need to sell the car, its paid so I might just clean it up best I can and watch the prices go up.

            Dan,

Car wise I have been really lucky.

My first was a 998cc Mini which my dad and I put as 1380cc lump in, a zeemax body kit fully re painted.

I then had a cavalier SRI ex police patrol car.

At 18 I moved onto my first Ford, a Escort Cossie that I insure via my dad and was in the army as a technical trade so flush with cash.

Moved into motorbikes for a while, RGV250, CBR 400 and the CBR900rr.

Back to ford and this time an RS1600i convertible with a full escort cossie kit on it in mint green...lol. swapped for a Pug 106 gti rare blue running throttle bodies.

Moved onto a 3 door Cossie, then a lotus elise s1, onto a Civic Type R, a 380 bhp Audi TT, a S1 RS turbo then into another Lotus elise but s1, type R but supercharged before my first Focus RS.

Then another Type R, a BMW 335d coupe with 380bhp, a 400bhp Golf R and now back to the RS as well as have a Triumph street triple.

So I've been lucky that my wife is accommodating to me changing my cars a lot. Lol

                Thanks Micko,

When you try and tell people how pain the pain is you can see their faces thinking your not telling the truth.

This is my first stone, I really wouldn't want another.

Lucky at worst case I get free bus rides with my job and itsa20/30mins to work when I go back.

Sorry to read this Barry and as others have said I hope you can hold fire on thinking of selling the RS. A month off work and take it easy.

The better weather is on its way and hope by then you will be fighting fit again.

                    Cheers Clayton.

I'm hoping that once this stone is out of me I'll feel a lot better. Its been ongoing since end of November and had to wait in pain because how busy the hospitals are with covid.

To be fair, I'd sooner the staff helped those with covid, yes I'm in pain but I wont die from this and people with covid need a hospital bed more than old whingy me.

If you're of a modifying bent, swap the seats. Or, I suppose with the current condition, supervise someone swapping the seats.

The standard Focus seat is all kinds of awful for comfort, and IMO that accentuates the relative stiffness of the car. I've been much more comfortable since swapping in some E46 BMW seats.

Fingers crossed you get everything sorted out without having to do anything you don't want to!

The hard ride is also a factor, along with the seats.

My surgery appears to have gone well so far, see how I am in a few weeks of recovery.

The weather still isn't brill anyway so might be okay by time it comes good, have mented and can get some work done on the car.

Main thing is cleaning up the engine bay for me. The last owner didn't appear to do much cleaning on it. Need to give it a good proper wash and detail and driver seat centre alcantara base could do with replacing.
