  • What made you get a FRS

I'm sure this has been done before.. but what made you buy your car ?

To a lot of people its just an old quick Focus..

I had an RS turbo back in the day, so for me its kind of the modern version, albeit still quite old in today's standards.

Intersted in why you got yours.

I've been a Ford nutter long before I got my license back in 1997. My first car was a Escort mk3 1.6GL, which I converted to an RS1600i and abused it properly.
    I then had a couple genuine RS1600i ( I still own a 95k km / 59k miles Graphite Grey since 2001).
When I first saw the Mk1 FRS I knew I would own one. Due to family life and house it took a few years to get my first one (2014).
I viewed over 10 cars before I found the car I wanted from 1st owner 85k km / 52k miles which I truly enjoyed and did 20k km in 5 years.

By far the best RS I've ever driven and can't think of a better one, so bought another one 2 years ago

My first car was a Mk1 Focus, my second was an ST170, third was the RS.

The Mk1 shape is the best looking modern car, IMO, and as soon as I had the facility to get my hands on an RS I went for it.

My dad worked for Jaguar and Ford in the nineties, and then Jag again in the 2000's, and is back at Ford again. So I've always had Fords around. Most of my early nineties car memories are of four different XR3i's (Mk4's), with a Bronco in the states.

The Focus RS is one of my "top five" cars, and one of the three actually attainable ones. I don't have the long history of lusting after RS models (Although, as a kid I had a Tamiya Escort RS Cosworth RC car, which I still want a real one of to this day) like some folks here, but I've had mine for.. Six or seven years now.

The age old “bucket list” of cars I liked as a kid and am now able to afford. An “RS” was always on the list (no specific model) but the Escort RS Cosworth was always just out of my reach.......I turned down one for £20k a few years ago and really regret that. Also a lovely RS1600i too, and I still smack myself in the face over missing out on that one. After sourcing and delivering a beautifully restored Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth For a good friend a few years ago I had to own an RS myself. The Focus RS came about due to me wanting a fun car that could accommodate my kids too and be largely reliable with more modern safety (surprised it didn't have isofix to be honest). My near standard early number model fitted the bill perfectly and was the only car that excited me at the time. My son cried when I chose to sell it so I had to buy him a model one for him to cherish. Will I regret selling mine?.....time will tell on that, but the only car I've truly regretted moving on was an E36 M3 3.0 saloon in Helrot red (1 of just 26). It lives in OZ now. The RS' colour is truly stunning and Ford really got the Dynamics of the Focus right. It did put a smile on my face whenever I drove it (sadly not often enough).

As a huge motorsport fan, I grew up watching Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts thrashing through the forests and the RS Capris 3 wheeling round the circuits of Europe. A lifelong love of RS Fords was inevitable. a growing family meant that I missed the boat with the RS Escorts but when I saw the first Focus RS on the road I knew that, one day I would have to own one.
I started looking seriously about 11 years ago, wanting a standard car - not easy to find then. Eventually I found 3748 at a dealer in Stoke on Trent and a deal was done. I've owned the car for 10 years now, it's still stock standard and I still love it. Every now and then I think about swapping it but my wife always reminds me how much I would miss it. Is it a keeper? Well, as we all know, it would take something pretty special to replace it.

I bought mine in 2004 because I absolutely loved the look and colour of the RS. I am the 2nd owner and she won't be going anywhere because I love her as much now as i did back then

Long term RS fan here first car i bought 1989 when just had my license was a mk4 escort 1,6 ghia that had almost anything of an RST except engine and box, bumpers, bonnet, brakes, suspension, interior etc. Crashed that 1995 and didn't want a lookalike anymore, had a decent job and wanted the real thing so bought a mk5b RS2k in pacifica blue, as couldn't afford an escos, which i still have up to day😎 joined a club and it all went **** up from then on 😂😂 1996 i bought a toy in the form if a restored mk2 droopsnoot RS2000, tuned it with bvh, idf's, lsd, suspension etc, loved that car. 1999 i bought my S1 as a shed to be restored by myself over 2000-2001 which i also still own up to day. By that time the mk5b was releaved of daily duty. Then when FRS was to be launched and i saw all them pics and reviews i wanted one from day 1, but life (wife, marriage, kids) got in the way 🙀🙀 but 2007 saw me selling my mk2 to free up some cash, which i bought myself a T25 escos with which i sold on a year later with enough profit to buy #0995 in 2009, and it is all i hoped/wanted for, i love the way it drives, looks etc and hope to enjoy it for many years to come
Also have a long term project RS/mexico mk2 replica since 2006 which has ground to a halt atm due to divorce, but it ain't going nowhere, there will be a time finances allow to finish this, it is at the back of my house in a dry workshop and body is done so no probs 😎

I learned to drive in a mk1 focus and liked the way that it drove and as my dad had always owned fords with the one at the time being a lovely capri blue st170 which looked good and went well. When it came to getting a family car it was a choice between a mk4 golf r32, an evo 8 or the mk1 focus rs so I weighed up which would be best for me and the mk1 won plus my partner thought it was the best of the three though she no longer likes the mk1, 9 years later and I still love driving the mk1 so I think that shows I made the right choice.
