  • Tuning Questions

Hi I recently bought my first RS and coming from a E92 M3 I don't have a clue about what's required for the RS.
The guy I bought it from said it currently has a Turbo Technics hybrid turbo, Pro Alloy intercooler, Forge actuator, intake, miltek decat and a mongoose cat back. It's also currently running a bluefin map. Would anyone be able to clear a few things up for me?
    1. Is it safe running the bluefin with them mods?
    2. What sort of power would I be looking at with them mods and a proper map?
    3. What sort of power levels is regarded as being ‘safe' without putting in forged pistons and rods?
    4. Who is the best to get these cars mapped by? Closer to Scotland the better for me.
    5. Is there any ‘must have' mods?

I would think bluefin would be ok with those modifications but it would definitely be better with a live map. I would imagine you would also need a different set of injectors though I'm not sure what ones as I'm running near on standard power and an uprated fuel pump. There are some owners running around 400bhp plus on standard internals but I would have thought at that level you would be on the edge of reliable power.

      Welcome Kieran !

      1. Yes a Bluefin map is safe
      2. A live map will see around 350bhp and more.
      3. I'm running 409bhp on standard internals and heard 450bhp would be the maximum, although I would not go that far tbh.
      4. I went to Sabre for a live map and they did an excellent job. But some owners send their ECU to Sabre.
They have been mapping lots and lots of these cars.
      5. Engine wise, i would say a tubular manifold, injectors and uprated fuel pump (DW65c) before mapping.

And don't forget your clutch, original ones don't like that amount of bhp 😂

      Which buildnumber is yours? 🏼

What injectors and clutch would you recommend? Anything over 350 I would be happy.

I can't actually remember the build number, I'll have a look when I pick it up.

Sabre supplied the injectors when I visited them for the mapping, can't remember which ones I got tbh.

I got AP 6 paddle clutch.

Does the AP clutch cope with the torque alright? The torque rating on it seems very low.

It does the job, even after 2yrs of 400bhp and 368ft/lb.
Their rates must be at the safe side.

Some owners go for Sachs, but I don't like the fact it's a clutch without springs:

                Kiran, welcome dude.
                An E92 V8 M3 to a Mk1....blimey. That's some swap....

Anyway, My car is running Sabre Stage 4 live map. 438bhp and 379 Torque. Forged bottom end though. AP Racing Organic Clutch. Handles the torque nicely. No slippage.

Kieran, first thing to do is to get rid of the Bluefin. The car is most likely running mega rich. Mine was, with BF and AFR's were in the 12's!!!. That is really bad.

Also, depending on what Ford base map, your car has, whether it be AE or AF, you MAY find that it *coughs* at around 4500rpm. If it does, don't be alarmed. This is a fundamental issue with cars running the AF map. It's a lean spot in the map. You can't map it out. My car had this, but I managed to swap it out for the better and earlier map of AE, from somebody who had an old ford bit of software in Blackpool. More aggressive and better to map over, and did away with the cough issue, but came at a price. Cold start issues. Man, the car hates starting from cold!!!

From where you are, Demon Performance Centre in Crewe is where to go. Pete Williams is the man in those parts.

On your mod's I'd expect around 345-360bhp and safely, the car and standard internals can handle that. Pushing into 400's, you might want to start considering bolstering things. Better spark plugs are a must. ITV27's are good for higher power.

One of the best mods to have with the intercooler would be to spin the turbo, which will reduce the amount of pipework and offer a quicker spool up time on the turbo.

                Hope this helps

                Wayne.
