A message from Shane Easterbrook to all Mk1 Focus RS Owner's. (6th June 2016)

Late last night I received a message from Shane who has asked me to write this to pass onto all Mk1 Focus RS owners.

Shane as we all know had a very bad accident on Sunday evening. Shane has suffered a broken back, head injuries and nerve and tendon damage to his right hand finger. Shane is very lucky to be alive as we have all seen from the pictures and video of his car.

Shane said to me last night that he is nervous as he is having an operation on his spine this morning. Obviously it's a very complex operation so I hope all goes well for him.

The message Shane wants to get across to everyone is this. Shane had Harnesses fitted to his seats of his Focus RS. He was told that it wasn't recommended to have these fitted to the car when he bought the car but didn't listen but now knows he is suffering from it. Shane has explained that because of these harnesses being fitted the seat snapped in half which broke his back.

He would like to think that because of what he has gone through it will get the message across to other owners with the same set up to remove the harnesses and stick with the standard seat belts.

Keep safe everyone and lets all learn from someone who is lucky to be able to help others with his message. Please spread the word to other owners at shows if you see the harnesses fitted to the standard Focus RS seats.

All the best to Shane in his operation today and I wish him a speedy recovery.

    Clayton Borg

This has been known to be an issue for a long time in the world of MK1 Focus RS. How sad that something like this tragic accident has happened to get people to listen. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Shane and his family.

Thoughts are with you shane and your family i hope you have a good recovery from that. I am shocked with the amount of damage that has caused but more importantly your still around to tell the tell. Take care and hopefuly your be back in another MK1 soon minus the harness. Andy

Clayton . Can you make this a sticky as it's safety related . Not to use a harness with standard seats . Just seen an rs on eBay 31/3/2018 with harness fitted ( eBay item number 253528164040) . Crazy !!! We need to get this message out to protect our members .

Good shout Fred and now a Sticky at your request. A simple modification that can cost lives and something that needs highlighting.

                    Thanks Fred.

I think if some owners knew what the seats looked like under the fancy covers they would think twice about fitting harnesses with standard seats, it was after Shane's accident did I see the picture of one with its cover removed and I was shocked that a seat that looked like a reclining bucket seat was actually no different to a standard seat with a separate headrest.

Until Shane's accident I didn't know that's what these seats were like underneath the cover and would have been happy to fit harnesses to them but after seeing this image there is not a chance I would fit them to these seats.
