Return to MK1 ownership

So after 9 years, I’ve returned to FRS ownership. The only car I had a leaky eye seeing leave me. I was spoilt at the time having bought it at 19. Not knowing how special it was, I sold it after 3 ish years of ownership. I don’t wish to discuss values but I am now back! I have had a couple of nice cars in The interim but my heart lives with the Focus.

I have just bought #769 from a dealer in the north whose has it on display for 7 years! Have checked underneath and it certainly needs some loving, but where do you begin?!

I would say just pull the subframes off and have at it 🤣. Good luck 😁

Welcome back, with the underside its possible to do at home on axle stands if your confident at it, start by dropping both subframes stripping them down easier off the car as the will be bolts seized in the bushes.

As said above drop the sub frames and check for rot / rust thoroughly and remediate if required

Then strip sub frames and replace / powder coat as necessary .

Thanks for the warm welcome. I always did love the Ford community the most. I forget the age of these things now so my expectations need to be realigned. I am in the fortunate position that I have a very good contact that normally does restorations on older fords. This is a bit modern for him, but I am sure he will be able to assist with a lot of it. I think this just needs some loving and to be my pride and joy!

I presume subframes cannot be bought anymore?

This has to be one of my biggest fears of owning one of these again. I worry parts are so scarce and everything is difficult to sort!

Parts are getting scarce Lee but they all do come up. Front bumpers are hard to find but got an email from a guy today who has a new one to sell.
