  • Thinking of making a return for the third time

Hi everyone, nice to see that some forums still have life in them and not everyone has been forced into facebook!
I have been the proud owner of two Mk1's so far. 2545 back in the day a long time ago, and 2392 more recently, but still 10 years ago! I miss the second one so much - it was superb, but it was right to sell at the time.

I now have a Mk3 RS which I bought new and use as my daily, but the pull of a mk1 never goes away, so I am looking at my options to purchase one as a possible investment. They way I look at it is that I missed the boat on the Escort Cosworth, and if I still had 2392 in the same condition I sold it - it would have doubled in value.

With this in mind, I am considering purchasing another around the 20K mark with the idea of minimal summer use, and restore little bits back to factory fresh spec over time.

So, first thing's first - how do I sign up to become a member and gain access to the build list??

    Cheers
    Dan

Mines for sale just over 20k (23k) but has recently had the underside done, all new bushes etc 51k miles, it is modified but nothing that cant be returned to standard if thats what you prefer.

Can be found for sale on here or pistonheads.

Welcome to joining the club Dan and good to see you here and looking for another Mk1. Know both of your previous cars, as it happens only two days after you joined our club the owner of 2392 joined our club. Would be nice to have you both in connection with each other so have let him know about this thread.

As regards the build list it is a separate login but I can sort this for you being a member, will PM you.

Good luck in your search and happy to help so please PM me for any of interest.

Here is 2392 with a few extras added from myself. The previous owner has restored the underside so still a fresh looking car 😎

Thanks Clayton - Its feels good to be potentially owning another. It is strange how these cars have this effect on us!
I did wonder about access to the build list, that will be really helpful so will look out for your PM

I cant tell you how pleased I am that the car is still looking good. Does it still have the hybrid turbo and Sabre map on it??

                  Thanks for posting the pics

I had unfinished business after I sold my first one. I was buying some 2nd hand modifications from someone (stockpiling) for my next car, and I ended up buying the car that he was returning to standard.
The car had all the lower arms and subframe powder coated and polybushed. Paintwork and interior was mint. It has done around 43K miles I think.
I stripped the front end and had a lot of the metal work such as the radiator bracket, bumper brackets re-powder coated.
I then set about purchasing a JohnFRS hybrid turbo, induction come and silicone hoses (water and air), CPE dump valve, Stack boost gauge, alloy charge cooler rad, JEK manifold, BCS sports cat and 3" system... I was blown away that Sabre extracted 380BHP in high boost (IIRC). I felt I could move on and sell up after that

Well, the deed is done. I am now the owner of #0146. Paid deposit and collect on Saturday.
The car is in very good condition for the age. It has had a full body respray from a previous owner, and wheels refurbed back to original. I have seen pictures of the work in progress and it has been done well.
The underside is solid, and the subframes fine for now, but I will be doing a strip down and restoration on those, plus engine bay. This will be an ongoing project to bring it back to OEM+ spec.
Interior is fine, but I'll get the steering wheel re-done, and long term get the seats tidied and double stitched.
It runs smooth (currently has DS iMap) with linear boost.

Things that will need immediate attention - It doesn't have a turbo heat shield, and the rear torque mount is knackered.

Are you collecting from Essex by any chance? If the registration ends with an L, then I know this car very well. Used to have a carbon bonnet, and was scruffy, until a bloke named Mick bought it, and got her looking nice again.

Congratulations on the purchase. And welcome back to mk1 ownership!
