  • Joining the Group. My story with these cars.

Hi. I feel like I'm the newbie here, but oddly not. I'll explain. Although I've just joined the group I've been involved with these cars right from the beginning, some of you might recognise my number plate, looks familiar maybe. Ford purchased RS02FLY, FUN, HOT and FMC and at the same time I managed to bag TOY. I've driven all of those cars, including test cars at a launch event held at Gaydon as I had one of the first batch of 35 cars to come to the U.K. The old expression, ‘it's not what you know, but who you know' played out for me very well.
A friend who worked high up in Ford U.K. a gent called Jeff Carr said once, ‘if you ever want a favour from me just ask'. 6 of his chums asked the same as me, ‘I want a Focus RS'. ‘You know there's a 8-10 month wait?' he replied when I asked the question, ‘yes' I replied, ‘OK, go put your deposit on at Stormont Ford in Tunbridge Wells and wait'. Here comes the crazy part, I had a phone call from the dealer principal at Kennedy Ford who were the satellite dealership handling my order, ‘Who do you know at Ford?' ‘What?' ‘You heard', ‘Why', ‘Your car is in the workshop!' ‘What!, how? ‘Well you must know, you know someone', 3 weeks after I ordered the car it was at the dealership. Just shows you what can happen if you just know the right person.
kept that one for a few years (trying to find the details still), regretted selling it then bought another a few months later (SM03OAN) from Scotland, kept that one for many years, won some cups with both and I've now recently purchased my 3rd. Just clocked 11,000 miles from new. So here we go again.

Now that's an intro!. Welcome to the club.

I guess the question is, with your connections, what parts can you still get hold of?.

Nice to see you here Glenn and a member of our club. We go back a good time and a time I will never forget, a time that hurt me badly.

                    Yes you're all correct.

There is a story to tell of this time, one that will haunt me forever lol.

The picture with myself and 'The Toy Man' car was at Ford Fair August / September time 2009. I had secured my new Mk1 Focus RS and at this show I decided to enter Concours and have my car 3021 up for sale at the same time, I thought what better time for the car to be seen than in Concours. I entered standard class along with one other car, The Toy Man's Focus RS. Anyway a long story short is I came second.

Glenn knows why I was wounded. ..... I thought my car would walk it me being a purist and Glenn's car having the bonnet stripes but how wrong was I.

Well done again on the win Glenn.

Enjoy the club forum Glenn and one day I hope to compete with you again.

Now is a good time to tag the owner of one of your cars Glenn, Jason.Marshall a member of our club and owns build number 2629.

Thank you for the welcome guys. My connection with Ford is now long gone for parts etc, so I will have to hunt as well if I need any. Funny that Clayton and I go back a long way and I won, ooppss. I won't put No.3 into competitions, it's a young man's game, working under a car ain't much fun on axle stands and small wheel ramps.
My RS is one of a small number of performance Fords I own, 3 others are a Capri 280, Escort RS Turbo Series 2 and an ST3 Fiesta, all mint. I also own a Mint MK1 Focus Ghia auto estate with 24,750 miles so I'm a Ford man through and through.
