  • Alarm issues & hazards lights flashing randomly

So, I had been having issues with the alarm sounding every 20mins & hazard lights flashing.

When I bought the car end of last summer it had a flat battery, since then I've replaced it with the recommended Bosch and all ok in the main. However, the horn on steering wheel didn't work & the hazards seem to flash randomly without reason day & night.

I found that the 20amp fuse for the horn had been removed by previous owner behind the glove box (#33 slot) & the Thatcham alarm unplugged in the boot . Then once replaced the hazards went off & so did the alarm horns/sirens sound every 20mins. I then had to remove it again. I've gone through a process of elimation & seem to have currently cured the issue 🤞

After reading it could be caused by the bonnet pin, I've adjusted the rubbers in the front corners near headlights which alters how high the bonnet sits on the car. After lowering them it seems the have done the trick by making the pin go further down thus not setting the alarm off 👍

Hopefully I've saved having to have an auto electrician look at it or have alarm replaced & maybe someone else after reading this.
Has anyone else had the same issue or found anything else similar that may cause the alarm to sound every 20mins?

The GT alarm is very temperamental Craig and has caused problems for many owners including myself over the years. The alarm when going off is very frustrating to say the least, especially with the thought of your neighbours. It's a case of playing about with the system as you have done to try and rectify it and I take my hat off to you for what you have achieved today.

While reading your post about the horn not working I instantly thought... fuse removed. Very poor it was left like this as it would have been an MOT failure. As you have found the bonnet switch has caused many owners problems, I would also recommend spraying some WD40 in the bonnet lock / pin.

Do you have two GT remote fobs for your car Craig and if so do they both work?

Did you also know there are two alarms for the Focus RS. You have the added security with the GT alarm and the standard Ford alarm that is activated when you double lock the car.

Yeah, I agree, very poor & dishonest. One reason I've had to get to the bottom of it was for MOT this month so the horn worked & didn't go off at the garage undertaking it.

Wd40 good shout, thanks Clayton 👍

I have two sets of Ford ignition keys but only one with GT alarm fob.

Yes, I was aware there are two alarms on the car after reading the supplementary manual for the RS. I seem to be under the impression I'm best to lock, alarm & disarm the car with just the GT fob ideally?
