I had a similar issue with mine and i found it kept blowing the fuses for the instrument cluster and it turned out that some wiring behind the fuse box inside the car had been rubbing on a bracket over some time and eventually cut through them, I only found this out once an auto electrician had looked at it.

Does it do it all the time?
My old one sometimes did this when the battery was low (showing mid 13v on scanguage) but after the car had been out for a good run and the battery was up to reasonable voltage it was fine

Battery, alternator, wiring or unit i would say. Start checking them 1 at a time to be sure about things

Check the wiring connections,i had a similar problem with the unit and found a slighty loose connection to the shell.

Does that mean it got worse(doing it all the time now)?Take it for a proper driven and check the alternator's voltage on the scangauge.

Nobody around to check your unit?

I meant the cluster (unit), have you swapped it for another one to see if that's the failure?

I would get an auto-electrician to take a look mate, will probably work out cheaper in the long run as replacing items can get costly if you aren't sure on the fault.

Could be a faulty earth, broken connector, split in the wiring, faulty instrument binnacle etc.

So I have had this same problem for some time have taken clocks out and stripped them down but could not see anything wrong then after laying the car up over winter the speedo, rev counter and all other guages have died only the idiot lights come on. So out came the clocks again stripped them down and had a look at the main circuit board and saw some corrosion. I had heard if you spray the board with wd40 and then put it in the airing cupboard to dry they may come back to life but I was not keen on this idea so I put some wd40 on cotton bud and cleaned all the corrosion and wiped the board over back and front then left it by a window to dry in the sun. Put it back together and to my amazement all the guages are working.
On a footnote apologies to Leigh Lush as I was so convinced they were scrap I ordered another set from him and then had to cancel the order but like the true gent he is, he was very understanding.

I have the same problem, first the speedo and rev counter needle were jumping all over the place and now nothing.
Will give these things a try.
                          Cheers

Might be worth cleaning all the earth's in the engine bay as well, I have heard a bad earth can affect the clocks as well.
                        Working...
