  • Lets talk about Boost Controllers

Alrite lads, Im getting towards getting my RS up and running and although I've not yet decided on the turbo choice I think I need to get some info together on Boost Controllers and see what people are rocking and how you get on with them?!

The power target is 400hp although i know that doesn't influence the BC choice but just thought it could be nice to know and I want to have switchable boost levels for when I'm chilling or feeling livid. Ideally something with ramping/linear boost options too would be nice is that possible?! Lets talk!

This is what I'm thinking atm http://garage-d.com/gizzmo-ms-ibc-v3...ontroller.html but there might be others that are wicked or reasons not to have this one im missing

Lets talk it out and see what people like dont like prefer dont prefer!

      Interesting and following.
I would like to have a boost controller that is linked to the gear you're in. Less boost in 1st and second gear and full boost in 3rd-5th.

BartFRS I totally agree dude and this is something that i will be looking into have boost progressive and capped lower in the gears then let all hell break loose 3rd onwards! I understand this can be done with mapping but surely the boost controller has to play a part in this!? I want to be able to have the option for progressively ramping boost as well as normal building to see how this effects drivability and power delivery etc! Basically i like to play around lol

So far im looking at this :-
          https://gb-ent.com/collections/boost...ntroller-msibc

          Gizzmo BC V4 ThreeQuarterBootUpMedRes_1024x1024.jpg?v=1503673680.jpg

I was also looking at the Blitz SBC but the boost limit is 1.3bar which is only about 18psi so that wont control the boost level plus its £340 ish compared to Gizzmo's £240

          https://www.blitz-uk.co.uk/store/ele...troller-15040/

Is there any others Im totally over looking like Apexi AVCR etc? But for £400+ is it really a contender?

          Cheers guys

I'm running a Blitz ID-III controller. It's a 4 channel set up, but only use two channels. Normal and Full. Very easy to use. Sabre set it up for me, and just flick between the 2 when the mood takes me.

But in truth, I never use full boost. My daily boost is more than enough at 380bhp.

Nice one mate the Blitz ID-III seems like a good unit and clearly its working for you well! A daily 380 is very healthy and im sure makes driving to and from work pretty lively lol How much you running on full tilt then? Can you remember what you paid for the BC i think they are around the 400 mark?

              Thanks for the input dude!

                Info from TS themselves :-

Boost Levels: up to 6 levels of boost.
Boost on Demand: provides instant overtaking power at your fingertips
Gear-based Mapping: set a different boost for each gear!
Adjustable Boost Levels: program boost against TIME or RPM.
Aux Output: fully programmable; controls water spray, methanol or nitrous injection.
RPM Compensation: eliminates boost drop-off at high RPM.
Peak Hold/Max Boost Recall: monitors boost and RPM.
                Gate Pressure: eliminates wastegate creep.
Overboost Shutdown: provides added protection for your engine .
Display: programmable, can be configured to KPA, Bar or PSI.
Auto Dimming: with backlit buttons for hassle free navigation.

Ok so it seems the Turbo Smart E-boost 2 handles up to 40psi so more than enough for us and has some wicked features personal favs mapping against time or RPM, the RPM compensation feature eliminates boost drop off at high RPM which I thought was a pretty cool feature! Also the option to control WI and NI is also pretty cool to have. But the one that grabs my attention is GEAR BASED MAPPING but im guessing this would need some type of aux input from our box etc so would have to be investigated further before buying for that purpose. They are £500+ tho.........

Im not too keen on the looks but itll prob be hidden in the glove box anyways so not too much of an issue! But the price tag is still haunting me...

As far as I know about gear based mapping, you need to tell the controller the max speed per gear.
                  https://www.enginebasics.com/EFI%20T...By%20Gear.html

I agree it's not cheap but has features that other cheaper controllers are lacking.
Do the other controllers come with solenoid valve as this one does.

your right there with the solenoid valve dude and also i think for gear based mapping we would need to have cars equipped with CAN BUS so think that feature might not be applicable to us which sucks! Unless im wrong on that and we do have CAN BUS and the controller can see what gear were in?!

I have been looking at the AEM tru boost, fairly simple. 2 boost settings so you can have low and high boost etc and 'scramble boost' . Doesn't do boost by gear or anything like that but then again it isn't £500

                Matt, on full tilt, I'm running 440bhp @ 26psi.

I bought my controller second hand, years ago with the vent custom mount included. Think I paid around £250-£300 for it.

But looking online for one now, there isn't any. I think Blitz have upgraded their products since then.

Fellas, I'm running forged internals, but standard inlet manifold. Matt, the car is a bit fun to drive, but like I say, I don't really use the full boost. The car is strong though, and has been built well, after it let go back in 2012..

Sounds awesome mate and if your getting 440 with std inlet and happy with throttle response etc keep on rocking man! Bet its a riot on the streets! And with the work you done should be bullet proof for years to come :)

Could it not work out gears from the rpm:wheel speed ratio as many gear indicators do in motorsport.

its possible mate i would imagine with some! As you say it is only a ratio and as long as it could read inputs then why not!

So today i found what i think looks to be the best boost controller on the planet that does EGT, Wideband AFR and fuel pressure as well as everything else we could ever want or need but the price is insane so thats that out the window lol https://www.plex-tuning.com/products...st-controller/

But i have been researching the GFB (Go Fast Bits) EBC and it seems just as good as all the others but the thing i like the most it has an option for auxiliary switch input so you can either toggle the presents, activate scramble all from a switch or button!

                Image?urlId=%2FSmgqYPc3qJirYaq8QDnPAZY1FFJBfLmx7ZjTdkbO2QYArVTn%2Bc4UMypY%2Fa%2F4nlxZCIe6%2FwljuwWEmzHPSGL8A%3D%3D.jpg

http://gfbeurope.com/go-fast-bits-g-...-gfb-3004.html thats the official distro site and has good info on the EBC but its available for about 220-240 loads of places in the UK! The one downside im seeing is no option to gear map boost but if we aren't able to anyway then this could be a good option!

That one is also interesting, but it's not cheap.
                  It does boost by gear.

I just bought the GFB controller. It's new and unused. Will give it a go when I get it.
If not happy I will sell on as I bought it for less than half the new price!
